Introduction
Department of Biotechnology at Chinmaya Degree College was established in 2004 to contribute to fascinating and emerging area of biological sciences. The department provides Post graduate M.Sc. program in Biotechnology with 20 intakes in every session. Ever since its establishment the department has aimed to provide quality education along with research environment through its ongoing program. Biotechnology is multidisciplinary in nature and finds its scope in areas of agriculture, medicine and health, food and fermentation technology, environment and energy and other industries and is believed in coming decades. The department is equipped with fully air-conditioned office, classrooms and laboratories. The department has produced more than 15 postgraduate batches and most of the pass outs have successfully made their entry into various reputed Institutions of the country and abroad, and settled in either academics and/or Industry. Due to in built strength of department, laboratories and facilities has been scaled up to research level. The department is well equipped with instruments such as Ultra centrifuge, Plant tissue growth chamber, Electrophoresis apparatus, SDS PAGE setup, PCR, Fermenter, Hybridization chamber, Soxhlet apparatus, Spectrophotometer (UV-Vis), AA Spectrophotometer, Calorimeter, Fluorescence microscope, Transilluminator, Gel Doc, BOD Incubator along with basic instruments like Autoclave, Laminar Air Flow (horizontal and vertical), Shaker, Colony Counter, Water Bath, Hot Air Oven, Bacteriological Incubator The department currently has two faculty members, who run laboratories undertaking cutting edge, molecularly focused basic science research in the areas including- molecular biology, microbiology, enzymology, plant biology and protein biochemistry. The faculty and students actively participate in national and international seminars, symposium etc. The main aim of such activities is to bring out creativity and innovativeness of students and keep them striving for excellence.
Achievements:
The department has organized several workshops, science exhibitions, and industrial visits, invited talks by eminent personalities so as to provide all round exposure and awareness to the students about the ongoing trends in the field of biological science and about possible carrier prospects. Our students are regularly placed in core companies in the field of pharma, medical diagnosis and cosmetics etc. Our students are getting selected regularly to pursue their research internships in renowned institutions and PhD programmes. One of our student Zainab Rao (Batch 2017-19) secured 1st rank in HNB University and got gold medal. The faculty members & students continually update themselves by organizing &/or participating in seminars / workshops / symposiums / conferences and special lectures and celebrating days of National & International importance etc.

- The M.Sc. students undertake dissertation work in last semester in view to orient them towards research in diverse areas of Biotechnology. Students also participate in seminars / workshops to enhance their communication and comprehension skills.
